Top 3 Daily Habits for Reducing Anxiety

Updated: Feb 27, 2019

Anxiety takes a toll. An ongoing state of worry and tension can wreak havoc on a person’s physical and emotional health. Manage anxiety and reduce overall stress by adopting these 3 simple daily habits.

Upon waking, drink a 16 ounce glass of water with 2-3 drop of doTerra Lemon essential oil. Lemon essential oil comes from the cold-pressing of the lemon peel and not the inner fruit. “The peel is the most nutrient dense portion of the lemon in terms of fat soluble phytonutrients” states Dr. Josh Axe; the essential oil is much more concentrated than the juice. Drinking the water with lemon helps raise dopamine levels, enhancing your mood. Drink the water with lemon essential oil before you have any caffeine in the morning; you’ll be surprised how your moods will improve and cravings for coffee and tea will begin to diminish after adopting this daily habit.

Meditation. If your mind is filled with worry or anxiety, you are living in the past or future, rather than the present. When you make a habit of investing the time to quiet these thoughts and practice being present it enables you to think more clearly, be more productive throughout the day, and approach your tasks from a place of inner wisdom and mindfulness. Consistently quieting your mind will reduce your reaction to stressful situations and will eventually cultivate an inner feeling of peace and calm. Twenty minutes every morning before you start your day is ideal, but start with 5 if that is all you can muster and increase it to 20 gradually.

Begin a Gratitude Journal. I like to do mine at the end of the day after I have spent a few minutes mapping out my plan for the following day. I sit on my favorite couch, close my eyes and take a few deep breaths to center and become present. When I open my eyes, I silently say thank you, to the divine, and begin to list the things I am most grateful for that day. This simple act can make even the most difficult of days seem not so bad. Light can be found in the darkest of days. The more gratitude I express, the more good things come my way. Crowd the lower vibrational frequencies of stress, worry and anxiety out by replacing them with feelings of gratitude.
